ALCS Health
At ALCS, we strive to do everything with Godly wisdom and with excellence. We seek His guidance as we make decisions to best serve the health and wellness of our students, faculty & staff, and families. Our general health guidelines are below.
“Through wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established." — Proverbs 24:3
ALCS Health
Health Etiquette — Proper etiquette in relation to health and wellness is expected of everyone at ALCS.
Hand Care — We encourage good hand-washing practices and hand sanitizing at school.
Respiratory Care — We encourage appropriate respiratory care when sneezing or coughing such as covering one’s mouth, coughing into one’s elbow, use of tissues, etc.
Illness and Attendance at School — We ask students, faculty, and staff to stay home when they are ill. If a student is out of school due to illness, please email alcsattendance@alcs.us OR call the school at (608) 221-1520 to report an absence.
Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye) — Conjunctivitis is an infection of the transparent membrane that covers the white of the eye and lines the eyelid. It is highly contagious and is primarily spread by hands. A child with bacterial pink eye will be excluded from school attendance until treated by antibiotics for 24 hours. If a child is not treated, reentry is allowed only if there is no pus in the eye.
COVID — ALCS follows the CDC guidelines related to COVID-19. Current guidance is to stay home if sick and return to school or work once feeling better and fever-free for at least 24 hours. Learn more at the CDC - COVID-19 website.
Fever — A fever of 100 degrees Fahrenheit or more is an indication of illness. A child with a fever will be sent home to recover and prevent further spread of illness at school.
Head Lice — ALCS must be notified if your child has head lice as soon as possible. Children with head lice will be excluded from school until appropriate treatment for lice is completed. The classroom will be checked and cleaned, and information will be sent home to parents concerning possible exposure.
Pertussis (Whooping Cough) — Pertussis is a highly contagious disease involving the respiratory tract that is spread by direct contact with discharges from the nose and throat of an infected individual. Symptoms resemble those of a common cold - sneezing, runny nose, low-grade fever, and mild cough. Over time, the cough becomes more severe. Learn more at the CDC - Pertussis website.
Ventilation — ALCS continues to use open classroom windows to bring in fresh air throughout the year as the weather allows. Faculty are encouraged to use our outdoor classroom areas as appropriate. All classrooms and offices have air purifiers.

Please join us in praying that each week of school is a healthy one!
