Summer Reading 2020
Summer Reading Challenge
Hey, K-2nd Grade Challengers!
You are invited to join us for . . .Miss Barbie’s Happy Camper Summer Reading Challenge!
By reading each week, you can learn a lot, have fun, and earn a chance to win prizes!!
~ all Kindergarten, First Grade, & Second Grade students are invited to participate ~
During the school year, we strive for 20 minutes a day. This summer, let’s challenge ourselves!
Our goal is to read 210 minutes a week (30 minutes x 7 days) all summer long.
Did You Know?
Research proves that a child who reads 1 minute a day outside of school will learn 8,000 words by the end of 6th grade. However, a child who reads 20 minutes a day will learn 1,800,000 words in that same time frame!!
How to Participate
The reading challenge is an ‘on your honor’ challenge. Click HERE to download the reading log.
Simply note the day, book, and how many minutes spent reading.
What ‘counts’ for reading? We have three options; all three have a positive impact on a child.
- Time a student reads on one’s own should be noted.
- Time a parent/child spend reading together should be counted.
- Time a child spends listening to books all will count for the reading time.
The joy of reading and the prevention of summer slide are definite prizes, but we also want to recognize our top readers for their commitment to reading and excellence!
~ top Readers in each grade will be invited to a special celebration in September to celebrate reading success ~
