Middle & High School Chapel

ALCS believes that middle and high school chapel plays a critical role in ALCS life and the development of Christian character.  The chapel experience incorporates time for worship as well as a time of sharing from the Word of God. These chapels take place on Thursday morning from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. in the City Church sanctuary. Middle and high school chapels are designed for the secondary department to come together, both by giving to the Lord as well as receiving from Him.

It is our goal to provide a variety of spiritual experiences for the student body at Abundant Life Christian School such that students will develop life-long spiritual disciplines that lead to a successful Christian life.

April 2012 - Small Groups Chapel

One of the most wonderful things that happens each week at Abundant Life Christian School is Chapel!  Chapel for both the elementary students and for the middle/high school students is a powerful opportunity for our students to learn more about the Lord, to grow in knowledge of His character, to deepen their relationships with the Father, and to support each other through prayer as well as to share in worship.

Once a month at our MS/HS Chapel, our ALCS students lead Chapel through a small groups format as coordinated by a senior student.  Seven small groups’ leaders work with the coordinator to ensure a valuable small groups experience for our 6-12th grade students.  The idea to have students engage and lead at Chapel was generated by a student and for the past two years has been a great addition to our Chapel time.

At April's Small Groups Chapel, the students reflected on Easter by answering the question, “what is Easter?”  They worked to define Easter and all it means in their small groups activity and then took the opportunity to express their discussion in a poem.

Here is a sampling of the poems from our Abundant Life Christian high school and middle school students.  May they bless you!

Easter
by Small Group D

Easter is my favorite of times,

Hiding and finding colorful eggs;

Sometimes we find candies or dimes,

At dinner we eat chicken legs.

We remember Easter by going to church

And take communion the Friday before.

I look outside and I see a birch,

What Jesus did, I now adore.

Candy, sugar, and ice cream is yummy,

Yet unless you have Jesus, Easter is crummy.

Three days since His death

Three mournful days.

On the third day, two women walk to

The tomb where their leader lay.

Walking toward the empty tomb,

The rock is rolled away.

They see a man clothed in white.,

And he says, he arose and lives today.

Amen.

Eternity
by Small Group H

Blood is Red

Veins are Blue.

Jesus died

Just for you.

He was beaten and bruised

And died on a tree

That was split in two

So you could be free.

Then he was taken to the grave

Where he stayed for three days.

He conquered death

And claimed victory

Now he lives in heaven

For all eternity.

Easter
by Small Group E

Jesus was sent down for man

To do whatever he can

Though he made many a friend

Many betrayed him in the end

The Pharisees killed him and thought they won

But this was God’s plan for his son

He died upon the cross

It seemed all was a loss

In the tomb for three days and then

He rose again

Now we don’t have to go to hell

We can be in heaven where all is well

Well you know those poems

That rhyme, well this isn’t one of those.

Roses are red, violets are blue,

Jesus died for me and everyone.

The stone was rolled away and

Jesus was taken up and to heaven.

The women found his empty grave,

He came to bring us salvation and grace.

Our poem has ended,

And Jesus lives.

Betrayal

Arrest, Trial, Scourging

Crucify him!  Crucify him! Crucify him!

Thorns on his head; cross on his back

Mocked by man; abandoned by God

Father, into your hands I commit my spirit

Lightening, darkness, flee in fear

Earthquake, the veil is torn

Three days in the tomb

He is risen!

Victory

Love
by Small Group A

Love.  Love.  Where is Love?

Love was tortured,

Love was bruised.

For thirty silver coins,

Love was used.

Love has gone,

Love has gone.

Love.  Love.  Where is Love?

Two days pass without Love,

Now let us go see what is left of our Love.

Where has He gone?

Where could He be?

Wait!  I see Him,

He is calling me.

He says go, Go!

Tell the world

He, our Love

Is alive!
