ALCS Band Solo & Ensemble Festival Participants (Emily, Connor, Ryan, Maeya, & Matthew; not pictured: Alexis)

Congratulations to our wonderfully talented student musicians who chose to compete in the Wisconsin School Music Association (WSMA) Solo and Ensemble Festival for Band this past weekend!!  We are so proud of their efforts and how well they represented Abundant Life Christian School.
Each of the students spent hours in preparation from picking their performance pieces to practicing, practicing, and practicing.  It takes courage to get up and perform a solo piece and each of our competitors took on the challenge as we would expect an ALCS Challenger to do – with commitment and determination!  Miss Schwinge, our ALCS Band Director, commented, “I believe any student who attends should be proud of their hard work in preparing and their score.”  Well said, Miss Schwinge!
WSMA uses a rubric to score the solos and ensembles.  Scores range from 1-5 with 1 being the highest.  All of our ALCS band soloists scored a 1 or 2.
Kudos to our 6th, 7th, and 9th grade performers for their outstanding work!
Maeya B, clarinet solo, 1
Emily K, flute solo, 1
Alexis O, clarinet solo, 2
Ryan R, clarinet solo, 1 and snare drum solo, 1
Matthew P, flute solo, 1
Connor P, alto saxophone solo, 2

We are so very proud of your hard earned accomplishments!

Band is a one of the Abundant Life Christian School fine arts programs which also includes art, choir/music, drama, forensics, and puppetry.  We believe the fine arts are a necessary part of the educational experience and require fine arts participation K-8 and students are strongly encouraged to take fine arts electives in high school (9-12).   Band is a fine arts elective in 4th – 12th grades.  ALCS Band is offered in partnership with the Overture Band Program.

This spring, Abundant Life Christian School is pleased to present through special arrangement with
R & H Theatricals a great American classic . . .

Show Synopsis:  Set in a Western Indian Territory just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story.  Although the road to true love never runs smooth with these two headstrong romantics holding the reins, love’s journey is as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road.  That they will succeed in making a new life together we have no doubt, and that is new life will begin in a brand-new state provides the ultimate climax to the triumphant OKLAHOMA!
Did You Know?

This is Rodgers and Hammerstein’s first collaboration!  In many ways, it is considered their most innovative and set the standards and established rules for musical theatre that are still being followed today.

Congratulations to our largest cast ever!

We can’t wait to see you use your God-given talents
to entertain and delight at
OKLAHOMA! on April 30 – May 2, 2015.
