Sharing Love and Appreciation

June 06, 2012
By Barbara Wiers

Each year, at the end of the school year, the elementary department hosts its final chapel which is an Awards Chapel.  This year, the elementary students and faculty conspired together to make the Awards Chapel special not just for those receiving awards, but also for Mr. Zehner, our principal.

As chapel went along, Mr. Zehner asked Mrs. S (aka: Mrs. Stankovsky) to join him on stage as he recognized her for 20+ years of service to ALCS.  She then turned the tables on him and one by one asked all the elementary classes to come forward and share their gifts and thanks with Mr. Zehner for his 29 years of service and leadership here at ALCS.

What a touching time it was to see the kids taking their turns, getting hugs, and sharing words of appreciation with Mr. Zehner.  You could feel the love of the kids for him and his love for them in that room.  There is no doubt that Bill Zehner loves kids. That love along with his passion for education have been the hallmarks of his service to Abundant Life Christian School.

As Mr. Zehner wraps up his tenure with ALCS, we cannot thank him enough for his love, his faithful leadership, and his godly example.  We are the better for having had Mr. Bill Zehner on our campus and he will forever be part of ALCS and a 'Challenger!'

Gardening God's Way

The 2nd grade class gave Mr. Zehner a garden themed gift with fresh veggies and gardening items.  However, it was the thoughtful card that caught the eye as each student signed the card that included the words to the beautiful hymn "In the Garden" and the poem "Gardening God's Way."  The students' gift was based on the Isaiah 58:11 Bible verse that reads, "The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame.  You will be like  well-watered GARDEN, like a spring whose waters never fail."

Mr. Zehner greatly loved this poem and we thought it would be a great reminder to us all to 'garden' God's way this summer!

Gardening God's Way ~ author unknown

Plant three rows of peas:  Peace of mind, Peace of heart, Peace of soul

Plant four rows of squash:  Squash gossip, Squash indifference, Squash grumbling, Squash selfishness

Plant four rows of lettuce:  Lettuce be faithful, Lettuce be kind, Lettuce be obedient, Lettuce love one another

No garden should be without turnips:  Turnip for service, Turnip to help one another

Water freely with patience and cultivate with love.

There is abundance in your garden . . . because you reap what you sow.

To conclude our garden, we must have thyme:  Thyme for God, Thyme for study, and Thyme for prayer.
